Physical Education started as way back as the 18th Century in Europe and by then it was specifically designed as a form of physical training for soldiers as they were expected to be fit for wars. In Botswana it is traced back to a long time ago and was realised important for hunters and gathers who had to be strong to carry out these chores.
Physical Education has been long there in the curriculum, the only problem was that it was not timetabled nor examined then. Children at Primary Schools engaged in some sporting activities which were offered as extra curriculum activities.
DEFINITION OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Physical Education can be seen as ‘The Integral part of education with its aim in developing the human cognitively (mental) psychomotor (physical) and affectively (socially), producing a fit and responsible citizen through the medium of selected and programmed physical activities’.
